Navoteño fisher collects boat insurance
A Navoteño fisherman has collected an insurance benefit from the government after losing his boat to a fire in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North early this year.
Benjamin Driguerro on Monday received a check worth P13,000 from Mayor Toby Tiangco and Aida Cristina Castro, business development and marketing specialist of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
Driguerro is the first registered fisherman in Navotas to receive an insurance claim from PCIC.
“This is one of the reasons our fisherfolk need to register under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture. As registered members, they may claim for insurance if their boats or fishing gears get damaged by calamities,” Tiangco said.
“Registered Navoteño fisherfolk may also avail of the NavoBangka and fishnets program of the city government,” he added.
PCIC insurance is free and covers rice crops, corn crops, high-value crops, livestock, fisheries and non-crop agricultural assets.
