Poor families get new homes in Navotas
Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco led the turnover of housing units to 153 informal settler families during the blessing and inauguration of three buildings and a multi-purpose hall in Navotas Homes 2-Tanza in Barangay Tanza 2.
Tiangco, together with Engr. Juancho Corpuz and Arch. Ma. Teresa P. Oblipias of National Housing Authority (NHA), Brgy. Chairperson Rochelle Vicencio and other city officials, led the ceremony.
NavotaAs Homes 2-Tanza features eight 3-storey buildings that can accommodate 408 families.
“As we continue our efforts to provide shelter to Navoteño families, we also ask that you take care of the communities we build,” Tiangco said.
“Discipline is key to a peaceful community. Follow the policies the city government has laid out and make your stay here orderly and harmonious,” he added.
Before qualifying to receive a housing unit, all members of an applicant’s family need to pass a drug test.
Applicants also agree to refrain from gambling or drinking alcohol inside their units or within the housing site.
Navotas has five in-city housing projects intended to keep families living along coastlines and riverbanks, or those considered danger zones, safe from harm.
The projects can shelter more than 2,000 families, all of whom are required to take drug tests to ensure that housing communities are peaceful and crime-free.
The city government has also acquired a 5-hectare unproductive fishpond that will be used for another housing project.
