Navotas fishermen receive free fishing nets

The City Government of Navotas Tuesday distributed various fishing nets to registered boat owners through its Handog Lambat Program.

Some 649 small-scale Navoteño fishers received 200-meter mesh nets in eight different sizes which can be used to catch various kinds of fish, shrimps, and crabs.

“It has always been our priority to provide our fisherfolk with opportunities to earn a sustainable livelihood. Navoteños are seasoned at fishing. We just need to supply them with necessary gears and equipment to ensure they can continuously earn enough and support their families,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

Aside from fishing nets, Navotas also grants marginal fisherfolks with their own fishing boats through the NavoBangkabuhayan Program.

Last week, 56 registered Navoteño fisherfolks received brand-new 30-footer fiberglass NavoBangka and fishing gears through the assistance of the Office of Sen. Imee Marcos.
